DoorDash is by far the most popular gig platform to earn some quick cash. The service exploded during the pandemic when more customers than ever started ordering delivery. This led to DoorDash flooding the market with millions of new drivers. While it’s still possible to earn close to $2000 per week in some areas, most delivery drivers report earnings in the range of $16-20 per hour.
The DoorDash website claims you can work when you want. This is not true. Only Dashers who meet the rewards level requirements can dash anytime. For everyone else, you can only work when the area is busy enough to allow you to log on.
Expected earnings from DoorDash depending entirely on your market. Most areas are flooded with drivers eager to snatch the lowest hanging fruit off the tree. These drivers are often called low-ballers. Well-seasoned drivers know when it’s time to say no. Why accept an $11 delivery going 20 miles round trip when a better offer might come up?
Whether DoorDash is for you depends on your preferences and needs. If you prefer to not deliver in a city or not deliver to fifth-floor apartments, then you keep that in mind when choosing where you want to deliver. DoorDash travels with you. If you drive to a different area, DoorDash will probably be available there.
Your needs are defined by your daily goal or how much you absolutely need to pay the bills. If your daily goal is only $100, you shouldn’t have a problem succeeding. If your daily goal is $500, you’ll probably need a lucky horseshoe up your butt and also learn how to multi gig.
DoorDash delivery drivers are referred to as Dashers. Many drivers refer to themselves as Door Dashers. DoorDash has a multi-tiered reward program that places Door Dashers into various levels. We won’t get into the details for the rewards program because not one of us Admins who are active Door Dashers think the rewards program is worth a hill of beans.

You can also download the DoorDash app directly from the App Store or Google Play and sign up directly in the app.
Once you’ve completed the application process you’ll have to wait for your background check. DoorDash and most other gig platforms use a third-party service called Checker to run the background checks. HOW MUCH CAN YOU EARN DOING DOORDASH?
The DoorDash website states that you will receive Base Pay, Tips, and Promotions. The exact verbiage is:
“You’ll always earn Base Pay for any offer accepted on DoorDash. Base Pay is calculated based on the estimated time, distance, and desirability of the offer.
Customers using DoorDash can tip you anytime you choose to accept an offer — and most offers include a tip. You’ll always receive 100% of the customer tips received by DoorDash.
Promotions like Peak Pay, Challenges, and Delivery Streaks help you earn more.
- Peak Pay pays you more per delivery or task.
- Challenges let you earn extra money for completing a certain number of deliveries or tasks in a set amount of time
- Delivery Streaks allow Dashers to earn extra money by accepting and completing offers consecutively while on a dash when the promotion is in effect.”
